Cherry Library
Our client wanted a bespoke library made from only the best materials to house her growing book collection and other valuable pieces of artwork.

Our client was happy to give us free reign with the design, with one request – to incorporate the presiding Andrew Martin dolls house drinks cabinet within the new library. Challenge accepted! We created it from solid Cherry, with no veneer being present in the project. Cherry is a beautiful wood which darkens over time into a deeply rich tone.
Having the opportunity to make a piece from fully solid wood is one we relish, it allows real craftsmanship to be incorporated into designs which a veneered equivalent wouldn’t allow.

All of the hinges and door knobs are from the industry leading Brusso, who make small solid brass masterpieces. We appreciate their ethos and aim to use their hardware every time a project permits.
The rolling ladder mechanism was custom fabricated in solid brass which finishes off our solid wood cherry ladder with class. Each step of the ladder is traditionally morticed and tenoned with wedges to hold the joint together which are visible signs of a handmade touch to this bespoke library.
We decided upon using four traditional pieces of detailing to tie the project together. Raised panel moulding for the doors and side panels, fluted verticals, ornate corning and a classic Ogee skirting were repeated throughout the project. This mimics other fluting and Ogee skirting which is present within the client’s home. We aimed to produce a bespoke library which looked as if it was built at the same time as the house. Jim Lawrence picture lighting was used to bring a warm atmosphere to the living room on dark winter evenings.
