Barony - Minimalist Baltic Birch Wardrobe
Why do we prefer to use birch ply for wardrobes? It is extremely durable which in turn aids the overall look of the project because we are able to include more intricate joinery than with other sheet goods.
If you zoom in on the image you can see the shelves are sat 9mm into grooves we cut out of the vertical side and middle pieces.
The same goes for the cabinet construction; rather than screwing together the cabinet in all four corners we can take a 9mm groove out of the sides to allow the top and base to sit within it.

Once fixed this results in a completely square cabinet which is rock solid versus dealing with an MDF cabinet which wants to wobble every which way until installed.
Another point to using birch ply – it’s far more environmentally friendly than almost any other timber product. Birch trees are native to northern Europe (mainly Finland) and Russia. It is an abundant, fast-growing species. This means that there is little or no destruction or disruption of biodiversity when birch is felled – a compelling reason to opt for this renewable source.
