Whisky Cabinet

Whisky arrived in Scotland and has become a central part of Scotland’s culture and history, particularly in Edinburgh where in 1505 the barbers were granted the right to legally distill.

Scotch whisky has evolved since this time where drams were distilled only once before being drank from stone or glass jars as a rough spirit, perhaps with a sprinkling of herbs to disguise the harsh taste.

As the end of the eighteenth century rolled in, whisky started to be stored in wooden casks.

Low and behold the art of wood maturation was discovered with a bare minimum of two thirds of the Whiskies flavour and colour coming from the wood.

The Oak casks became priceless with the exact type of Oak, what it had been used for before and how many times it has been used are all now recorded in search of distilling the perfect dram. The whisky industries approach to their Oak casks is one we admire – a true respect for the materials, knowing that the Oak itself is what makes the end product and without such perfect timber, the industry would be left in the dust.

We view our Oak in the same regard, as each slab which comes in to our hands is another chance towards creating something one step closer to perfection.

My own intense interest in Scottish whisky combined with my aim to create unique pieces of value from wood is what initially sparked my inspiration to design and build a drinks cabinet dedicated to solely highlighting the magic of Whisky and Oak.

Our signature whisky cabinet combines contemporary veneering techniques and design with solid Oak to create an eye catching display for prided bottles of whisky.

This cabinet has been made with the collector in mind who wants their bottles on display safe in the knowledge that the glass doors keep unwanted hands and dust from the bottles. The circular design was inspired by the shape of whisky casks.

A true malt whisky starts to become exceptional at roughly 15 years old. Value takes time. We are open about the length of time our work takes us – each whisky cabinet takes over 150 hours of work by hand to create a piece we are happy to stand behind.

Creating the 4cm thick curved walls takes over two weeks alone as we guide veneers and solid Oak into position. The internal layout features an upper shelf for drink tumblers.

The main display area measures 75cm long by 30cm deep with a secondary display shelf below for shorter bottles measuring 55cm long by 30cm deep.

Our signature drinks cabinets can be commissioned in bespoke sizes or configurations by using our enquiry form.
